What is coaching?

Coaching focuses on the present and future.  Where are you now, and where do you want to go?  Who do you want to be?
Through a short-term series of phone sessions, you experience profound transformation as you actualize your goals and dreams.  The result?  Navigating the transition into motherhood with grace, joy, hope and confidence in your limitless potential.

What is the format?

We design a series of phone sessions customized to your needs and interests.  Typically sessions range from 30 to 60 minutes, every other week, for several months.  Your investment in self-care results in an increased sense of hope and potential.

Who is Jenny?

Picture
Jenny is a certified professional coach who supports new mothers and those yearning for balance, so that they can live in hopefulness and joy.  As a coach, Jenny walks with her clients along life’s journey, through the twists and turns, into the possible.  Through coaching, Jenny’s clients witness themselves rapidly evolving into the person they are meant to be.  With ease and fun, the “work” of Jenny’s coaching is transformation.

Originally from Chicago, Jenny first moved to San Francisco in 1997.  Graduating from Georgetown University, she focused her American Studies degree on “outsiders” in America, those existing on the margins of the cultural core.  Raised to follow the Ignatian ideal of being “a person for others”, Jenny has a personal mission of maximizing her time on the planet in order to make the world a better place.  Jenny obtained her Master of Social Work degree from Saint Louis University, selected for their emphasis on social justice, and she trained in both clinical work and community organizing.  Coming to coaching with 19 years of social work experience, both in the United States and abroad, Jenny has worked in a variety of mental health program settings, with currently and formerly incarcerated people, in a residential substance use treatment program serving the Native American community, in political advocacy organizations, and most recently in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood with people facing poverty and homelessness.   Jenny has spent the last ten years carrying out program design and improvement, with a focus on management and supervision in a predominantly peer-based staffing model.  Over the last year, Jenny has been part of a collaborative team incorporating community coaching into the workplace, introducing staff to coaching and providing tools and training for staff to coach each other and program participants.  Jenny is currently the secretary of the Mental Health Contractors Association, and sits on the Cultural Competency Task Force of the city of San Francisco.  Consistent with her core value of social justice, Jenny’s career has blended direct service, program management, political advocacy and activism in order to achieve social change.

The mother of two young children, Jenny knows first-hand the challenges of motherhood.  After her first child was born, exhausted by sleep deprivation, working full-time, and trying to be a good mom, Jenny felt completely overwhelmed and thought this must be what motherhood is like.  It was not until later that she learned this was post-partum depression.  Thankfully, through therapy and the transformational power of coaching, she re-emerged into the light of hope and possibility.  This gave Jenny a deepening understanding of the essential need for self-care in order to be more resilient, stronger, and healthier moms, partners, friends, coworkers and selves.  Given her personal experience, Jenny is committed to sharing this light with other new moms and those struggling to balance all the pieces.  We do not have to do it alone; motherhood does not have to be hard and lonely.

In addition, Jenny plays Irish fiddle, runs on the beach, speaks some Spanish, and loves to cook.  Jenny actively works on being more compassionate with herself, finding acceptance of just being human.  Her future self is a really calm, relaxed person who does even more yoga, mindfulness and meditation than she does currently.
